A postcard arrived from London.  The correspondent revisited all the classic sights (sigh)  and will be glad to get home again.

Nikki Gemmell has also returned to Australia, for good, she wrote in The Weekend Australian Magazine and is estatic and raves about home after 14 years in England and is over the top. She does echo my thinking:..beauty -  a spiky, prickly, ravishing Australian beauty, not that soft, benigh, European one.

Sydney's turn is here for the Edinburgh Military Tattoo. The pageant was last seen in the 'colony' in 2005.

Post card: A pipe band in Princes Street. Edinburgh. Taken long ago. 'A view of the world famous thoroughfare from the North British Hotel.  In the forefront is seen the Edinburgh City Police Pipe Band on the march.  Prominent in the picture is the Scott Monument'.

Ostalgie (East German) and Soviet chic are occasionally used to refer to nostalgia for life under the socialist system (Wikipedia). Care still lingers on for the illusion of that world despite awareness of the reality.
And what about the Trabant and Lada fan clubs?
